Bhopal is in Bhopal district. Bhopal is capital of Madhya Pradesh. Bhopal is also known as the City of Lakes because of the two beautiful lakes that are situated in the center of the city Culturally, the Bhopal state gives the modern state of Madhya Pradesh.
The city was originally called Bhojpal. Over a period of time, this was shortened to its present name, Bhopal. King Raja Bhoj of the Parmara built the city of Bhojapal.
Bhopal today presents a multi-faceted profile; the old city with its teeming market places and fine old mosques and palaces still bear the aristocratic imprint of its former rulers; among them the succession of powerful Begums who ruled Bhopal from 1819 to 1926.
