Indore city is in Indore district. This city is planned and built by Rani Ahilyabai. The city is situated in the Narmada River valley.

Rani Ahilyabai is the queen of Holkar. Peshwa give this area to Malhar Rao Holkar in 1733. Indore was destroyed in 1801 but recovered and was the British headquarters of their Central India Agency.
